With the support of our Sponsors and the Universität Hamburg, we are very happy to be able to offer registration at ESSLLI 2008 at a price below that of ESSLLI 2007.
We are aware that many of the student participants are not just worried about the registration fee, but about the total costs, including travel and accommodation. With some of our accommodation options below € 300 for the two weeks of ESSLLI, and with a number of cheap travel options (see our Travel Information page), ESSLLI 2008 is a very good deal. We have also arranged student prices at the local mensa of the Universität Hamburg, giving you access to a convenient warm meal for lunch at the price of € 2. Using budget airlines, it will be possible to attend ESSLLI at a total cost of under € 750 from most places in Europe (including travel, accommodation and registration).

All regularly enrolled students, no matter in which type of programme (undergraduate or graduate), can register as regular student participants. Participants who are not enrolled students should register at the regular non-student rate. Speakers at one of the ten workshops are allowed to register at the student rate (in the category workshop speakers non-invited)).
A number of participants get a full fee waiver. Please only register in the category fee waiver if you are absolutely certain that you belong to this group. Fee waivers have been given to
- Members of the Organizing Committee,
- all lecturers of courses and organizers of workshops,
- the invited speakers of the ten workshops,
- the four evening lecturers,
- student helpers (these are local students who volunteered to help with the organization and were explicitly given a fee waiver by the organizers),
- the chair and co-chairs of the 13th ESSLLI Student Session, and
- any other person who has explicit permission of the organizers to register in the fee waiver category.
Payment options.
We accept two kinds of payment. The preferred mode is through PayPal. PayPal is an online payment system that allows one to easily transfer money digitally. It is quite easy to create a PayPal account and transfer money from your regular bank account to there. Please make sure that you have enough money on your PayPal account before registering.
The second option is by credit card (VISA or Master Card). For this, you have to enter your credit card data on the secure PayPal page.
Registration proceeds in two steps: in the first step, you enter all of your data to be submitted to the ESSLLI 2008 database. The amount that you have to pay will be calculated based on this. You should then follow immediately the link to the PayPal page to either pay by PayPal or credit card. Make sure that you have your PayPal or credit card data ready before you register. On the right hand side of the registration page, you'll see a big login window entitled "LOG IN TO PAYPAL". If you wish to pay by PayPal, please enter your account name and password here and proceed to pay. On the left hand side, you'll see the text "Don't have a PayPal account? Pay by credit card." If you wish to pay by credit card, click on "Continue", enter your credit card data on the next page, and then click on "Review Order and Continue". If you do not follow the link to the payment page, your registration will not be complete and will be deleted.
Cancellation policy.
If you have to cancel your ESSLLI participation, please contact us as soon as possible at esslli2008@science.uva.nl. We'll then discuss the technicalities of refunding your money with you. If you cancel before the early registration deadline (1 May 2008), you will be refunded 75% of the non-accommodation costs and 90% of the accommodation costs. If you cancel after 1 May 2008, but before 1 July 2008, you'll be refunded 25% of the non-accommodation costs. Unfortunately, we cannot refund any accommodation payments after 1 May 2008. After 1 July 2008, we cannot refund anything in the case of a cancellation.
