Official Registration for writing a thesis

In order to officially register for writing a thesis, a student has to fill in the form Approval of individual programme content MSc Logic. Please contact the MSc director and make sure that you understand the procedure of registering.

The form needs five signatures and has two appendices:

  • Appendix I is a list of the 90 EC of obligatory and non obligatory elements in fulfillment of the requirements of the MSc degree. Please note that one project should be part of the obligatory elements.
(For Fast-Track students, this form must contain the transfer credits as agreed by the Board of Examiners.)
  • Appendix II contains the thesis plan with information about the supervisor, the topic and the planning of your thesis. It also contains information about courses that still have to be finished.
You can use this appendix when you plan your thesis with your prospective supervisor.

It is important to include a description of the planned thesis in the box on p.4.

The form needs to be signed (in the following order) by

  • the student
  • the thesis supervisor,
  • the MSc director,
  • the Study Advisor,
  • the Board of Examiners.
After having the form signed by yourself and your thesis supervisor you can hand it in either to the MSc director or to Tanja Kassenaar. If the form is filled in correctly, Tanja will send it to the Study Advisor, who checks whether all courses on your form are properly registered and if so, he signs it. He will also get the signature of the chair of the Board of Examiners and sends fully signed and xeroxed copies of the 'approval' form to all parties involved, i.e., the Board of Examiners, the MSc Logic administration, the supervisor and you. In case something is missing, either in the form or in the UvA administration system, you will be contacted to solve the problem.
