DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20110624 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20110626 LOCATION:Pittsburgh PA, U.S.A. DESCRIPTION:The 2011 EPISTEME conference will focu s on the intersection of formal and social epistem ology. The use of formal models in social epistemo logy is not a new development. Many philosophers h ave modeled concepts and ideas in social epistemol ogy by using formal tools of various types (e.g., game theory, Bayesian decision theory, the theory of judgment aggregation, the recently developed th eory of networks, multi-agent epistemic logic, soc ial choice theory, etc.). This conference intends to explore the many fertile relations between vari ous branches of formal epistemology and many sub-a reas of contemporary social epistemology. The 20 11 EPISTEME conference will be hosted by the Cente r for Formal Epistemology in the Department of Phi losophy at Carnegie Mellon University. The topic o f the conference is: "Social Epistemology meets Fo rmal Epistemology: Recent developments and new tre nds" For more information, see http://epistemejo urnal.wordpress.com/conference/2011-carnegie-melon / There will be a number of open sessions as part of this conference, and the organizers would like to invite submissions. Papers addressing any aspe ct of the conference theme, broadly conceived, are welcome. Submissions from graduate students are a lso welcome. The deadline for submissions is Febru ary 15th 2011.
