Many t raditional issues in the philosophy of mathematics , concerning both our understanding of the concept of number and our conception of mathematical obje cts, has been seen in a new light under the pressu re of the development of cognitive studies. Often, however, we are faced with the stark opposition b etween those who believe that cognitive results te ll us all there is to say about mathematics, pace most traditional philosophical concerns, and those who deny that cognitive aspects of mathematical t hinking, however interesting they may be on their own, can foster any progress in the solution of as yet theoretically unavoidable philosophical issue s. Many, however, feel the urge of filling the gap, one way or the other. Major and interrelated issues are indeed at stake. This workshop aims at bringing together scholars on both sides of the di vide, and to offer the opportunity to young resear chers of discussing works at the interplay between cognitive science and the philosophy of mathemati cs. The workshop Numerical Cognition and Mathema tical Ontology is one of the Workshop associated t o the Seventh Conference in Analytic Philosophy (E CAP7).
