Th ere have been a number of relevant papers that hav e appeared in recent cryptography and security con ferences, but the space of research problems is en ormous and -- especially with the introduction of more robust blockchain platforms like Ethereum -- is still growing. This summer school aims to brin g together the communities working on cryptocurren cies, cryptographic electronic cash, and distribut ed consensus. The target audience is anyone (stude nts, researchers, developers, professionals) with an interest in cryptography/security. It is helpfu l for participants to have a basic knowledge of cr yptography but we will make sure to provide an ove rview of all the necessary cryptographic building blocks; similarly, we expect that the school will be able to educate and motivate even those partici pants who already work within these research areas .
