Bi lateral approaches hold that the meaning of expres sions is characterized in terms of conditions on t wo, usually opposite primitives (e.g. truth and fa lsity, assertion and rejection, belief and disbeli ef). Recent years have witnessed the independent d evelopment of a variety of bilateral approaches to analyze phenomena such as negation, epistemic mod ality and counterfactuals, from both a proof-theor etic and a model-theoretic perspective. The worksh op will bring together researchers from either per spective in order to provide a venue for the syste matic exploration of commonalities, differences an d potential interactions between such approaches. Invited speakers: Maria Aloni (ILLC, Amsterdam), Teresa Marques (Logos, Barcelona), Greg Restall (M elbourne) and David Ripley (Monash). We invite su bmissions from both a proof-theoretic and model-th eoretical perspective, and especially welcome cont ributions addressing possible interactions between the two perspectives. One presentation slot will be reserved for early career researchers (PhD stud ents and researchers who obtained their PhD no lat er than 5 years after the submission deadline). Tradition al semantics gives the meaning of expressions in t erms of conditions on one kind of primitive (e.g. truth, assertion, belief). Bilateral approaches ho ld that the meaning of expressions is characterize d in terms of conditions on two, usually opposite primitives (e.g. truth and falsity, assertion and rejection, belief and disbelief). Recent years hav e witnessed the independent development of a varie ty of bilateral approaches to analyze phenomena su ch as negation, epistemic modality and counterfact uals, from both a proof-theoretic and a model-theo retic perspective. The workshop will bring togethe r researchers from either perspective in order to provide a venue for the systematic exploration of commonalities, differences and potential interacti ons between such approaches.
