Postdoc Position in Computational Social Choice

Postdoc Position in Computational Social Choice

The Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at the University of Amsterdam is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research fellow in the field of computational social choice. The position is associated with the NWO-funded project "Aggregation of Preferences over Uncertain Outcomes" led by Dr. Ulle Endriss.

Institute for Logic, Language and Computation

The Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) is an interdisciplinary research institute of the University of Amsterdam, in which researchers from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities collaborate. Research at the ILLC draws from a wide range of different disciplines, including logic, mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, linguistics, cognitive science, philosophy and game theory.

Candidate Profile

Prospective candidates should hold or be about to obtain a PhD degree in a field relevant to the project (such as artificial intelligence, computer science, logic, mathematical economics, operations research or philosophy), and have a proven track record of excellence in research, as witnessed by publications in relevant conference proceedings or journals. Good communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential. While this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate will be expected to also make a small contribution to teaching. In particular, there is the opportunity to teach the Cooperative Games course in the ILLC's MSc Logic programme (but other options are also open for discussion).

Appointment

The appointment will be for a period of 20 months (full-time, 38 hours/week). The starting date is negotiable (but there is a preference for candidates able to start in late 2012). The gross monthly salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel in the Netherlands, and will range from EUR 2744 to EUR 3755 (scale 10), depending on experience and qualifications. The annual salary will be supplemented with an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.

Application

Applications should include a letter of motivation, a detailed curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and the names and contact details of two or three academic referees. If possible, please also include a link to a website with an online version of your PhD thesis and relevant publications (e.g., your professional homepage). Applications should be sent by email to the personnel department of the Faculty of Science at using the subject line "Vacancy number W12-169: Postdoc COMSOC/ILLC". Please send a single PDF file. The application deadline is Monday, 17 September 2012.
