Associate Professorship (Forsteamanuensis) in Logic and
Natural Languages, Oslo (Norway)

At the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, a position as associate professor ("forsteamanuensis") is open. The position is connected to the Research Group for Logic and natural languages.

The position is within the research areas of Logic and Computational Linguistics and belongs to the research group called Logic and Natural Languages (LNS). This research group is new in the department and is the result of a transfer of parts of the earlier group in Computing in the Humanities from the Humanities Faculty. The group carries the main responsibility for the teaching program in IT - Language, Logic, Psychology.

The successful candidate should be qualified in either logic and applications of logic within computer science or be qualified in computational linguistics/language technology. It will be taken into consideration how well the research profile of the applicant fits in with the research profile of the LNS-group, and in addition, how well the research profile of the applicant may strengthen collaboration with other parts of the department. With respect to logic, this will primarily be collaboration with the research group in Precise Modeling and Analysis (PMA) including the research areas: type theory, functional languages, proof automatization, ontologies and knowledge representation, together with program specification and correctness.

We expect that candidates hold a PhD in Computer Science or related, have substantial research expertise in the area of distributed systems, and have experiences in teaching and preferably in the acquisition of research projects. It is expected that non-Norwegian applicants are willing to learn Norwegian within reasonable time.

- a statement of the relevance of their background to the offered position including a complete list of publications.
- copies of the most relevant publications (maximum 10)
- documentation of other competence of relevance for the position such as teaching, publications in the popular press, etc.

Applicants who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching competence, must acquire such competence in the course of a period of two years.

The ability to create a good working environment will be ascribed weight.

As a general rule an interview will be used in the appointment process, and it may be appropriate to require trial lectures

The salary offered for associate professors is about Nkr 425 000 a year. For especially qualified applicants, the wages may be set somewhat higher.
