PhD student position in Cottbus

At the Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany, Campus in Cottbus, there is an open Ph.D. position at the Chair in Theoretical Computer Science (Prof. Dr. K. Meer) starting from 1. April 2016 or later: Position of Scientific Staff Member full time 3 years contract with option for 2 years extension; salary according to E 13 TV-L (public service).

Task Description: The position is a full time position combining scientific research and teaching duties. As far as research is concerned the core area of interest at our chair is complexity theory in alternative (to the Turing model) models of computation, foremost in real number models. However, the candidate's own interests and research plans within the areas of theoretical computer science or algorithmic mathematics are welcome. The position includes the possibility to work towards a PhD degree. The teaching amount will be 4 hours lecturing per week plus the necessary preparation as well as supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses written at the chair.

Prerequisites: Excellent University Degree (Diploma or Master of Science) in Computer Science or Mathematics. Applicants should have a strong theoretical/mathematical background, in particular good knowledge of computability and complexity theory; strong interest and skills in doing scientific research in an area of theoretical computer science; commitment to teaching; fluent in German or English.
