SUMMARY:2019 Hamburg Summer School on Truthmaker S
 emantics, Hamburg, Germany

LOCATION:Hamburg, Germany
DESCRIPTION:The Phlox Research Group at Hamburg Un
iversity is delighted to announce the 2019 Hamburg
Summer School on Truthmaker Semantics. Truthmaker
semantics is an approach to semantics that has at
tracted a growing amount of interest in recent yea
rs. It takes the content of a statement to be give
n in terms of the states that exactly verify it, w
herethis is taken to require that the state-roughl
y, a part or fragment of a world=be wholly relevan
t to the truth of the statement. In this course,
after an introduction to the history, the motivati
ons, and the basic framework of truthmaker semanti
cs, we will survey its applications to (i) deontic
and imperative logic, (ii) conditionals, (iii) pa
rtial content, (iv) intuitionistic and relevance l
ogic, (v) Bayesian epistemology and the theory of
rational belief revision, as well as (vi) natural
language semantics (attitude reports, modals, and
intensional definite descriptions). The Summer Sch
ool will be taught by Kit Fine (NYU), Mark Jago (N
 ottingham), Johannes Korbmacher (Utrecht), Stephan
Krämer (Hamburg), and Friederike Moltmann (Paris,
  NYU).
