SUMMARY:Conference on Rational Approaches in Langu
 age Science (RAILS), Saarbruecken, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20191024
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20191026
LOCATION:Saarbruecken, Germany
DESCRIPTION:The language sciences increasingly hav
e in common their adoption of rational probabilist
ic approaches, such as Bayesian, Information Theor
etic, and Game Theoretic frameworks. The goal of t
his conference is to bring together speech and lan
guage researchers whose scientific contributions r
eflect the full diversity of disciplines and metho
dologies - from speech to discourse, on-line proce
ssing to corpus-based investigation, through to la
nguage change and evolution - that have benefited
from, and share, such rational explanations. Keyn
ote speakers: Gerhard Jaeger (Tuebingen University
), Gina Kuperberg (Tufts University), Hannah Rohde
(University of Edinburgh) and Rory Turnbull (Univ
ersity of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa). We therefore seek su
bmissions from across the language sciences - incl
uding speech science, theoretical linguistics, emp
 irical linguistics, psycholinguistics and neurosci
ence, computational linguistics, as well as langua
ge development, change and evolution - which apply
  rational probabilistic explanations to linguistic
phenomena, or bring novel experimental findings t
o bear on such accounts. Submissions in the form
of 400 word abstracts are to be submitted electron
ically. Submission will be considered for either o
 ral or poster presentation.
