SUMMARY:The 4th Advanced School in Computer Scienc
e and Engineering: The Mathematics of Quantum Comp
utation, Jerusalem, Israel
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20191215
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20191219
LOCATION:Jerusalem, Israel
DESCRIPTION:On 15-19 December 2019, we will be org
anizing a math-oriented quantum computation school
in the IIAS at the Hebrew university. No prior kn
owledge on quantum will be assumed. The school wil
l introduce TCS and math students and faculty, who
are interested in the more mathematical side of t
he area, to the beautiful and fascinating mathemat
ical open questions in quantum computation, starti
ng from scratch. We hope to reach a point where pa
rticipants gain initial tools and basic perspectiv
e to start working in this area. To achieve this,
we will have several mini-courses, each of two or
three hours, about central topics in the area. Th
ese will include quantum algorithms, quantum error
correction, quantum supremacy, delegation and ver
ification, interactive proofs, cryptography, and H
amiltonian complexity. We will emphasize concepts,
open questions, and links to mathematics. We will
have daily TA sessions with hands-on exercises, t
o allow for a serious process of learning.
