SUMMARY:Symposium on Integrating Generic and Conte
 xtual Knowledge (GeCKo symposium)
DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Amsterdam:20200518T090000
DTEND;TZID=Europe/Amsterdam:20191218T180000
LOCATION:Barcelona
DESCRIPTION:Integrating generic and contextual kno
wledge remains a challenging task in Computational
Linguistics and interfacing fields. While current
data-driven models excel in capturing broad regul
arities, they can fail to apply this information t
o specific situations. The GeCKo symposium seeks t
o 1) understand the issues involved in the integra
tion of generic and situation-specific information
  in Computational Linguistics, across applications
and research areas; 2) identify ways forward; and
  3) cross-fertilize Computational Linguistics with
Machine Learning, Linguistics, and Cognitive Scie
nce researchers working at this junction. The GeC
Ko symposium will feature talks by invited speaker
s, contributed talks, as well as a poster session
preceded by lightning talks. For the GeCKo sympos
ium we seek contributions dealing with this issue,
at the crossroads of Computational Linguistics, M
achine Learning, Linguistics, and Cognitive Scienc
e; including areas such as Language and Vision, an
d Machine Translation. We seek contributions of pu
blished work as well as unpublished research, of t
he following, non-exclusive types: Analysis, Model
 ling, Cross-fertilizing, or Position papers.
