SUMMARY:Autumn 2020, Workshop "Philosophy of Scien
ce meets Machine Learning", Tübingen, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20200817
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20200819
LOCATION:Tübingen, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Machine learning does not only transfo

 e. The workshop focuses on that latter issue. It a
ims to discuss whether and how exactly recent deve
lopments in the field of machine learning potentia
lly transform the process of scientific inquiry. F
or this, it sets out to analyse the field of machi
ne learning through the lenses of philosophy of sc
ience, epistemology, research ethics and cognate f
ields such as sociology of science. The workshop w
ill bring together philosophers from different bac
kgrounds (from formal epistemology to the study of
the social dimensions of science) and machine lea
rning researchers. The workshop is organised by t
he 'Ethics and Philosophy Lab' of the Cluster of E
xcellence 'Machine Learning: New Perspectives for
Science' at the University of Tübingen. The works
hop planned for June 2020 is postponed - new date
will be announced as soon as possible. The call f
