SUMMARY:Workshop in Theories of Paradox in the Mid
 dle Ages, Online
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20201021
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20201023
LOCATION:Online
DESCRIPTION:Paradoxes seized the attention of logi
cians in the middle ages, and were used both as te
sts for the viability of theories of logic, langua
ge, epistemology, and possibly every philosophical
issue, and also in the specific genre of insolubl
es as needing a theoretical solution, usually invo
lving issues about signification, truth, knowledge
and modality. Numerous theories were developed, n
ot only in the Latin West, but also in the Islamic
world and in the Byzantine tradition. Some of the
se theories are well known, others barely investig
ated, if at all. This workshop is an opportunity t
o discuss and contrast a range of these theories a
nd consider their advantages and drawbacks, and th
eir relation to more recent theories of paradox an
 d antinomy.
