SUMMARY:PALMYR-3, Paris, France
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20060627
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20060628
LOCATION:Paris, France
DESCRIPTION:Each PALMYR consists of two workshops,
one in Paris and one in Amsterdam, and is aimed a
t fostering connections between two lively logic c
ommunities. This year's first meeting will be in P
aris on June 27th and 28th, and will have as a the
me "What is the relationship between logic and rea
soning?" As in the previous editions, each talk wi
ll be commented. For a long time, logic and rea
soning have been bedfellows, for better or for wor
st. Boole viewed logic as nothing less than An inv
estigation into the Laws of Thought, while Frege a
rgued for an irrevocable split up. But even if mod
ern logical literature abound with attempts at get
ting closer to real-life reasoning (e.g. epistemic
 , fuzzy, conditional, intensional, paraconsistent,
and other "non-classical" logics) the state of th
eir relationship is still unclear. Does logic desc
ribe reasoning? Does it provide normative standard
s for reasoning? For this third PALMYR, we are loo
king for researchers from, but not only, Paris or
Amsterdam interested to share their opinion on thi
s long-standing relationship. For more informat
 ion, see https://www.illc.uva.nl/PALMYR/PALMYR-3/.
     Interested researchers should submit electroni
 cally a one-page (12pt) abstract before April 16th
  (extended deadline).
