SUMMARY:Workshop "Towards a New Epistemology of Ma
 thematics", Berlin, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20060914
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20060915
LOCATION:Berlin, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally, there has been a deep d
ivide between philosophy of mathematics dealing wi
th foundational issues (questions about mathematic
al ontology, connections between logic and mathema
tics, and the proper axiomatic framework) and soci
ological and didactical approaches to mathematics
deadling with a description of mathematical practi
ce (including mathematics education and related ma
tters). Currently, we witness this picture undergo
ing considerable changes. Recent developments ques
tion the special character of philosophy of mathem
atics as traditionally conceived. Our workshop is
devoted to developing this line of development fur
ther, putting special emphasis on the epistemologi
cal issues involved. For more information, an on
line registration form and a preliminary program,
 see http://www.phimsamp.uni-bonn.de/GAP6/ The or
ganizers cordially invite contributed papers from
all relevant areas of research, including historic
al, didactical, and empirical approaches to the ph
ilosophy of mathematics. . Submission deadline is
 April 1st, 2006.
