DESCRIPTION:The Erasmus Institute for Philosophy a
nd Economics (Erasmus School of Philosophy, Erasmu
s University of Rotterdam) and the OZSW study grou
p on Social Choice and Group Dynamics are organisi
ng a graduate conference on Formal Models of Democ
racy, featuring contributed talks by junior schola
rs and tutorials by Hélène Landemore (Yale Univers
ity) and Ulle Endriss (University of Amsterdam).
Formal modelling (decision theory, game theory, so
cial choice theory, agent-based models, formal epi
stemology) has been and continues to be an importa
nt source of insight for political philosophy in g
eneral, and democratic theory in particular. The a
im of this graduate workshop is to bring together
junior scholars working on formal models and the n
ormative theory of democracy. We specifically welc
ome contributions that combine both enterprises, o
r that critically inspect the relation between the
 m. We welcome contributions by graduate students
and scholars who obtained their PhD after March 1s
 t, 2019. Depending on the number of high-quality s
ubmissions received, these junior scholars will ha
ve between 30 and 45 minutes (including Q&A) to pr
esent their work or research project.
