SUMMARY:Philosophical roots of mathematical logic,
  Torino, Italy
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20220404
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20220406
LOCATION:Torino, Italy
DESCRIPTION:The philosophical tradition of logic o
verlapped with the development of modern mathemati
cal logic from the first versions of the algebra o
f logic in the mid nineteenth-century until inquir
ies into the logical foundations of mathematics fr
om the early 1930s. This very fact strongly sugges
ts that there might have been significant intersec
tions between what appear now as separate discipli
nes, and raises the question of whether philosophi
cal roots can be traced in the development of math
ematical logic. The aim of this conference is to fo
ster further exchanges between those who are doing
scholarly research on the history of logic in the
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries from var
ious perspectives, including those who focus on th
e philosophical tradition of the nineteenth centur
y and its developments in neo-Kantianism and pheno
menology, historians of logic and of related mathe
matical disciplines, as well as philosophers who a
re interested in the epistemological issues surrou
nding modern mathematical logic. The conference w
ill take place at the University of Turin, Italy.
It is planned as a hybrid event with face-to-face
sessions and one online session. We welcome abstr
act proposals (max 500 words) prepared for blind r
eview. When submitting an abstract proposal, pleas
e specify in the accompanying email whether you ar
e currently planning to attend in person or online
 .
