SUMMARY:Workshop "Philosophical and\nPsychological
  Perspectives on Number", Brussel
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20060511
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20060511
LOCATION:Brussel
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this workshop is to bring t
ogether psychologists and philosophers who are stu
dying the epistemological and ontological foundati
ons of number.Key topics are: what are numbers? Ho
w do we acquire knowledge about them? What is the
role of language and other cultural factors in acq
uiring numerical concepts? What neural correlates
underlie numerical competence? What are the implic
ations of psychological foundations of number for
the philosophy of mathematics? We expect that brin
ging together philosophers and psychologists will
foster a unique cross-fertilization for both field
 s. As the workshop will have an in-depth, focused
character, we have invited eminent scholars in psy
chology and philosophy whose work has deepened the
understanding of the nature and knowledge of numb
