SUMMARY:9th Conference on Machines, Computations a
nd Universality (MCU 2022), Debrecen, Hungary
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20220831
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20220902
LOCATION:Debrecen, Hungary
DESCRIPTION:The International conference MCU serie
s traces its roots back to the mid 90's, and has a
lways been concerned with gaining a deeper underst
anding of computation and universality through the
study of models of general purpose computation.
The 9th edition of MCU will take place at the Univ
ersity of Debrecen in Hungary, it is co-located wi
th DCFS 2022 and NCMA 2022. As long as travel cond
itions and the situation concerning the current hu
manitarian crisis in the neighboring Ukraine allow
, the conference is planned to be on-site. If nece
ssary, the possibility of both, in-person and onli
ne participation will be provided. The scope of t
he conference topics includes, but is not limited
to, computation in the setting of various discrete
models (Turing machines, register machines, cellu
lar automata, tile assembly systems, rewriting sys
tems, molecular computing models, neural models...
) and analog and hybrid models (BSS machines, infi
nite time cellular automata, real machines, quantu
m computing...) and the meaning and implantation o
f universality in these contexts. Particular empha
sis is given towards search for frontiers between
decidability and undecidability in the various mod
els, search for the simplest universal models, com
putational complexity of predicting the evolution
of computations in the various models. Parallel co
mputing models and their connections to decidabili
ty, complexity and universality. Submitted papers
must describe work not previously published, and
they must neither be accepted nor under review at
a journal or at another conference with refereed p
roceedings. Authors are required to submit their m
anuscripts electronically in PDF using the LNCS st
yle.  Papers should not exceed 15 pages; full proo
fs may appear in a clearly marked technical append
ix which will be read at the reviewers' discretion
. The submission process is managed by EasyChair.
A best paper and a best student paper will be sel
ected by the program committee and announced durin
g the conference. To be eligible for best student
paper, except for at most one PhD adviser co-autho
r, all co-authors and the person presenting the pa
per should at most have presented their PhD after
September 1, 2021. A selection of papers will be i
nvited to submit extended versions for publication
in a special issue of the International Journal o
 f Foundations of Computer Science.
