DESCRIPTION:The HHU Summer School 'Philosophy of M
 athematics Beyond the Armchair?!' aims at gatherin
 g young scholars with an interest into the philoso
 phy of mathematics who want to explore new and inn
 ovative methodologies. Current trends show that ph
 ilosophers of mathematics see the potential in app
 lying various methods from other disciplines such 
 as large corpus analyses, interview studies, or ps
 ychological experiments. We offer a platform to ed
 ucate the upcoming generation in those methods. It
  should be noted that those methods are in princip
 le valuable for other fields of philosophy as well
 .  During five days, the schedule will be split in
 to a morning and afternoon session in which intern
 ationally highly reputed lecturers offer courses p
 resenting their methods of expertise. The students
  will have the possibility to apply the methods an
 d study the practical details. In some evening lec
 tures, we will reflect on the limits and potential
  of empirical methods for the philosophy of mathem
 atics together with prominent philosophers of math
 ematics. Further, a social get-together and an aft
 ernoon excursion is planned to guarantee exchange 
 between the participants.
