SUMMARY:Cognition And OntologieS Workshop (CAOS 20
 22), Joenkoeping, Sweden
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20220815
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20220819
LOCATION:Joenkoeping, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the workshop is to brid
ge the gap between the cognitive sciences and rese
arch on formal ontologies and, thus, to create a v
enue for researchers interested in interdisciplina
ry aspects of knowledge representation. More spec
ifically, CAOS investigates key cognitive phenomen
a and concepts (and the involved terminology) that
can be found across language, psychology, and rea
soning, and how they can be formally and ontologic
ally understood and analysed. The exploration of t
 he connection between cognitive sciences/experimen
tal psychology and ontologies, as well as, more ge
nerally, symbolic AI, aims also to provide formal
and logical modelling and reasoning approaches for
capturing such connections. CAOS, thus, seeks ans
wers to ways such formalisations and ontological a
nalysis can be exploited in Artificial Intelligenc
e and information systems, also in practical appli
cation. Cognition And OntologieS 2022 is part of
the 8th Joint Ontology Workshops (JOWO 2022). We
welcome submissions on topics related to the ontol
ogy of hypothesised building blocks of cognition (
such as image schemas, affordances, categories, an
d related notions) and of cognitive capacities (su
ch as concept invention and combination, language
acquisition and categorisation), as well as system
-demonstrations modelling these capacities in appl
ication settings. We also welcome submissions addr
essing the cognitive and epistemological adequacy
of ontological modelling. We welcome researchers
from all career stages to participate. Besides ful
l research papers, work in progress (short papers)
and extended abstracts (presentation only) are al
so welcome since a central goal of the workshop is
the discussion of ongoing interdisciplinary work.
All research papers must be original and not subm
itted to or accepted by any other workshop, confer
 ence or journal.
