SUMMARY:26th Workshop on the Semantics and Pragmat
ics of Dialogue (SemDial / DubDial 2022), Dublin (
 Ireland) & Virtual
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20220822
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20220824
LOCATION:Dublin (Ireland) & Virtual
DESCRIPTION:DubDial will be the 26th edition of th
e SemDial workshop series, which aims to bring tog
ether researchers working on the semantics and pra
gmatics of dialogue in fields such as formal seman
tics and pragmatics, computational linguistics, ar
 tificial intelligence, philosophy, psychology, and
neuroscience. In 2022 the workshop will be hosted
by the Information, Communication and Entertainme
nt Research Institute at Technological University
Dublin, Ireland and the SFI ADAPT Research Centre.
There will also be an online component for those
who cannot travel to Dublin. This year, there wil
l be a guiding theme for the conference: Interacti
vism. The interactivist model (Bickhard, 2009) off
ers a new dynamic approach to understanding langua
ge, communication, and cognition. Across many disc
iplines, from philosophy to neuroscience and robot
ics, there is recognition that explanations of lif
e and mind need to be grounded in the physics of f
 ar-from-equilibrium, interactive systems. From thi
s starting point, explanations have been developed
for phenomena ranging from representation, percep
tion, and action to motivation, memory, learning a
 nd development, emotions, consciousness, rationali
ty, sociality, personality and psychopathology. Th
is work has yet to develop interfaces with studies
of specific phenomena in dialogue modelling and o
ur purpose is to open the discussion on how dialog
ue researchers can take advantage of this and rela
ted perspectives like Enactivism and Ecological Ps
ychology. We welcome submissions on this special
theme of Interactivism and we continue to welcome
any papers with formal, computational and empirica
l approaches to the semantics and pragmatics of di
alogue. Authors should submit an *anonymous* paper
of at most 8 pages of content (an additional 2 pa
ges are allowed for references). SemDial 2022 cann
ot accept work for publication or presentation tha
t will be (or has been) published elsewhere. Submi
ssions due: 2 June 2022. There will be a later ca
ll for 2-page abstracts describing system demonstr
ations and/or ongoing projects relevant to the top
ics of the workshop, with submission deadline 15th
  July.
