SUMMARY:16th International Conference on Grammatic
al Inference (ICGI 2023), Rabat, Morocco
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20230710

LOCATION:Rabat, Morocco
DESCRIPTION:Grammatical Inference is the research
area at the intersection of Machine Learning and F
ormal Language Theory. Since 1993, the Internation
al Conference on Grammatical Inference (ICGI) is t
he meeting place for presenting, discovering, and
discussing the latest research results on the foun
dations of learning languages, from theoretical an
d algorithmic perspectives to their applications (
natural language or document processing, bioinform
atics, model checking and software verification, p
rogram synthesis, robotic planning and control, in
trusion detection...). This 16th edition of ICGI
will be held in-person in Rabat, the modern capita
l with deep-rooted history of Morocco located on t
he Atlantic Coast. To celebrate the 30th anniversa
ry of the ICGI conference, the program will includ
e a distinguished lecture by Dana Angluin. The pro
gram will also include two invited talks, on recen
t advances of Grammatical Inference for Natural La
nguage Processing and Bioinformatics by Cyril Alla
uzen (Google NY) and Ahmed Elnaggar (TU München),
a half-day tutorial at the beginning of the confer
ence on formal languages and neural models for lea
rning on sequences by Will Merrill, as well as ora
l presentations of accepted papers. We welcome th
ree types of papers: Formal and/or technical paper
s describe original contributions (theoretical, me
thodological, or conceptual) in the field of gramm
atical inference. A technical paper should clearly
describe the situation or problem tackled, the re
levant state of the art, the position or solution
suggested, and the benefits of the contribution.Po
sition papers can describe completely new research
positions, approaches, or open problems. Current
limits can be discussed. In all cases, rigor in th
e presentation will be required. Such papers must
describe precisely the situation, problem, or chal
lenge addressed, and demonstrate how current metho
ds, tools, or ways of reasoning, may be inadequate
.Tool papers describing a new tool for grammatical
inference. The tool must be publicly available an
d the paper has to contain several use-case studie
s describing the use of the tool. In addition, the
paper should clearly describe the implemented alg
orithms, input parameters and syntax, and the prod
uced output. Deadline for submissions: March 12th,
2023. Additionally we invite extended abstracts
on work in progress that may be of interest to the
grammatical inference community. You will get the
opportunity to present and discuss your work in p
rogress at ICGI in Rabat, Morocco, July 10-13th. E
xtended abstracts of work in progress will not app
ear in the proceedings (as they will not be formal
ly peer reviewed), but will be available on the we
 bsite. Deadline: June 10th, 2023.
