SUMMARY:Workshop on Topic Modelling

LOCATION:P.C. Hoofthuis Room 5.55, Spuistraat 134,
  Amsterdam
DESCRIPTION:Topic modelling is one of the most pop
ular methods for explorative research in large col
lections of documents, and topic models can also b
e foundational to various other language technolog
y such as search engines. Recently, it has found m
any applications in the humanities as well, for ex
ample for exploring collections of reviews of medi
a, trends in social media posts or by correlating
topics to sociolinguistic variables in text corpor
 a. In this workshop, we will cover some basics of
topic modelling and we will do some hands-on pract
ice, both with easy-to-use tools and with Python f
or those who have programming experience (but prog
ramming experience is not required to participate
in the workshop). The workshop is led by Jelke Bl
oem and Viktorija Kostadinova. There will be coffe
e, tea, and sandwiches, kindly sponsored by the AC
LC. If you're interested in participating, please
 register by June 9th.
