SUMMARY:MCMP Summer School for Widening Participat
ion in Mathematical Philosophy, Munich, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20240722
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20240724
LOCATION:Munich, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Following a series of eight successful
MCMP-organized summer schools on mathematical phi
losophy for female students, the Munich Center for
Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP) will this year bro
aden its offering, with a summer school for women
and members of other groups that are under-represe
nted in formal philosophy. These groups include un
der-represented gender identities, races and ethni
cities, people with disabilities, people from low
income and non-academic family backgrounds. The s
chool's aim is to encourage students to engage wit
h mathematical and scientific approaches to philos
ophical problems, and thereby help to redress the
under-representation of women and other marginaliz
ed groups in formal philosophy. It offers the oppo
rtunity for study in an informal and interdiscipli
nary setting, for lively debate, and for the devel
opment of a network of students and professors int
erested in the application of formal methods to ph
ilosophy. This edition of the summer school will f
eature lectures by: Jingyi Wu (LSE): “Models of Di
versity and Injustice” Sara Uckelman (Durham Unive
rsity): “What History of Logic Can Teach Us About
the Future of Logic”. In addition, there will be a
n evening lecture by Barbara Vetter (FU Berlin): “
First-generation philosophers: why they matter, an
 d how to support them”.
