 ermany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20240715

LOCATION:Greifswald, Germany
DESCRIPTION:“Formal Ethics” is a common denominato
r for the application of tools from logic, decisio
n theory, game theory, and social choice theory to
the analysis of concepts and theories in moral an
d political philosophy. It is a rapidly growing fi
eld of research that goes back to the work of Kenn
eth Arrow, Amartya Sen, John Harsanyi, Georg Henri
k von Wright, and others. The field has recently g
ained new impetus with formal work on freedom and
responsibility, welfare economics and population e
thics, deontic logic and natural language semantic
s, value theory, and the evolution of norms and co
nventions. Invited speakers: Justin Bruner (Unive
rsity at Buffalo), Fabrizio Cariani (University of
Maryland) and Anne Schwenkenbecher (Murdoch Unive
rsity). Formal Ethics 2024 will feature a single
track for contributed talks of 40-45 minutes. Auth
ors should submit an extended abstract (1000 words
max, pdf format) via Easychair. Submissions in al
l areas of formal ethics, broadly construed, are w
elcome. Contributions need not be formal in nature
but should show familiarity with applying formal
tools and results to ethical investigations. We we
lcome and strongly encourage submissions from memb
ers of underrepresented groups, as well as early c
areer researchers and students. All submissions sh
ould be prepared for anonymous review.
