SUMMARY:Neo-Fregeanism Workshop
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20241107
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20241108
LOCATION:University of Leeds
DESCRIPTION:Abstractionism/Neo-Fregeanism in the p
hilosophy of mathematics is the thesis that Fregea
n abstraction principles, such as Hume's Principle
, play an essential role in our knowledge of mathe
matical truths, the existence of mathematical obje
cts, and our capacity to effect singular reference
to these objects. The workshop will explore the l
 ogico-mathematical aspects of neo-Fregeanism, such
as Frege's Theorem and the Bad Company Objection,
as well as its philosophical aspects including Fr
ege's Caesar Problem, the possibility of mathemati
cal singular thought and/or reference, and the epi
stemology of abstraction principles. The workshop
occasions the imminent publication of the second e
dition of Crispin Wright's Frege's Conception of N
umbers as Objects. We will explore variations on t
hemes from Wright. To register, please send an em
ail (not later than Oct 20) to: b.assadian at leed
s.ac.uk. Free admission; everybody is welcome.
