SUMMARY:Workshop on Pragmatic Reasoning in Languag
 e Models @ COLM 2025

LOCATION:Montreal, Canada
DESCRIPTION:The 1st Workshop on Pragmatic Reasonin
g in Language Models (PragLM) aims to stimulate re
search on LLMs as pragmatically competent language
users. We invite contributions that will forward
the discussion of understanding and improvement of
LLMs' capability to generate natural language fle
xibly and efficiently across contexts, with relati
ons to research on the cognitive and linguistic pr
 ocesses supporting effective, context-sensitive co
mmunication. Our interdisciplinary theme brings to
gether researchers in NLP, computational pragmatic
s, cognitive science, and other fields. We invite
researchers to present their published and ongoin
g works on the topics of, but not limited to: - I
mproving Pragmatic, Contextual Language Use in LLM
s - Evaluating Pragmatic Competence of Language M
odels - Theory-of-Mind (ToM) and Pragmatics - Pr
agmatics across Cultures and Languages - Applicat
ion of LLMs for Understanding Human Pragmatic Lang
uage Use - Interpretability of LLMs' Pragmatic Co
mpetence We seek both 4-page extended abstracts a
nd 8-page full papers, excluding references and ap
pendices. All workshop papers are non-archival, an
d we welcome position papers on topics of interest
to the workshop. All submissions will be in the C
OLM 2025 LaTeX format and submitted via the OpenRe
view portal. Accepted papers will be invited for p
oster/oral presentations and will be publicly avai
 lable on the workshop website.
