SUMMARY:Linguistics and Epistemology, Aberdeen, Sc
 otland
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20070512
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20070513
LOCATION:Aberdeen, Scotland
DESCRIPTION:One of the most striking developments
in recent epistemological theorizing is the use of
linguistic data and arguments to defend epistemol
 ogical positions. Famous epistemological positions
that are motivated and disputed in this way are c
 ontextualism, subject sensitive invariantism, and
contrastivism. The overall aim of this conference
is to bring together outstanding researchers worki
ng in this area of epistemology to both discuss th
e validity of the 'linguistic method' and bring th
is method into actual practice. For more inform
 ation, see http://www.abdn.ac.uk/philosophy/events
/lingepist/ or contact Martijn Blaauw at m.blaauw
at abdn.ac.uk. Papers are now invited on any top
ic that is relevant to the conference theme. We ar
e interested in papers that discuss whether using
linguistic data/arguments really is a desirable wa
y of doing epistemology, as well as in papers that
actually bring the method of using linguistic dat
a/arguments to argue for epistemological positions
into practice. Abstracts should be submitted to t
he conference organiser by email or snailmail by N
 ovember 27th 2006.
