SUMMARY:Combining Probability and Logic (PROGIC07)
 , Canterbury, UK
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20070905
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20070907
LOCATION:Canterbury, UK
DESCRIPTION:There are a plethora of views as to th
e relationship between probability and logic and a
panoply of proposals for combining the two. In pa
rticular, probabilistic logics offer formal combin
ations of probability and logic - often, however,
at the expense of perspicuity and tractability. Th
e question arises as to whether probabilistic netw
orks might be used to render probabilistic logics
 more comprehensible and computationally feasible.
In this workshop we aim to bring researchers from
a variety of disciplines together to assess the pr
ospects of applying probabilistic networks to prob
abilistic logics, and more generally to elucidate
the relationship between probability and logic. F
 or more information, see http://www.kent.ac.uk/sec
 l/philosophy/jw/2007/progic/ We welcome submissio
ns of papers on the special focus of the workshop,
Probabilistic Logic and Probabilistic Networks, o
r indeed on any aspect of combining probability an
d logic. Submission deadline is 1st May 2007.
