Intelligent computing is generally known to b e computationally intensive from the point of view of resources required: time, memory, bandwidth. A s this is usually thought to be a drawback, distri buted computing is expected to give an impetus to its practical applications. Moreover, intelligent techniques have also proved their usefulness to co re distributed computing technologies like: planni ng & scheduling, load balancing, replication, reso urce allocation and management, etc. Therefore, th e emergent field of intelligent and distributed co mputing is expected to pose new challenges of adap tation and fruitful combination of both areas. The aim of this symposium is to bring together resear chers involved in intelligent and distributed comp uting to allow cross-fertilization and synergy of ideas and to enable advancement of researches in t he field. For more information, see http://softw are.ucv.ro/~badica_costin/idc2007/ The symposium welcomes submissions of original papers concernin g all aspects of intelligent and distributed compu ting ranging from concepts and theoretical develop ments to advanced technologies and innovative appl ications.
