SUMMARY:Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Os
 nabrück
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20070910

LOCATION:Osnabrück
DESCRIPTION:Within the course of the last 50 years
, Artificial Intelligence has developed into a maj
or field of research with a multitude of facets an
d application areas. While, in general, Artificial
Intelligence research is driven by application ne
eds, it is nevertheless a fact that foundational q
uestions and theoretical insights have always been
one of the driving forces behind its development.
This includes the quest for realising intelligent
behaviour in artificial systems as envisioned in
the early days of AI research. But it also compris
es biological inspirations e.g. for robot design,
artificial neural networks, or emergent intelligen
ce, as well as logical underpinnings of automated
 deduc-tion and knowledge representation. Indeed
, formal and foundational aspects of artificial in
telligence are being studied in many sub areas in
order to serve application needs. It lies in the n
ature of such fundamental research that a critical
mass of different formal perspectives can generat
 e a cross-fertilization of ideas and applications.
We therefore intend to bring together researchers
working on foundational aspects of Artificial Int
elligence across different communities, in order t
o stimulate an exchange of ideas and methods betwe
en them. For more information, see http://logic.
 aifb.uni-karlsruhe.de/wiki/FAInt-07 The Programm
e Committee cordially invites all researchers to s
ubmit their papers for presentation. Submission de
 adline is June 8, 2007.
