SUMMARY:International Conference on Quotation and
 Meaning (ICQM), Mainz, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20071019
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20071021
LOCATION:Mainz, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Quotation is a sort of metarepresentat
ion that is found in all natural languages. Lingui
stic research has made clear that in quotation, th
ere are complex syntactic, morphological and graph
ematic mechanisms at work. In philosophy of langua
ge, there are long-standing debates on quotation a
nd paradoxes, on the use-mention distinction, and
the meaning of quotation marks and quotation expre
ssions. More recently, quotation has become a topi
c within the debate on the semantics/pragmatics di
stinction. For more information, see http://www.
 zitatundbedeutung.uni-mainz.de/eng/icqm.php or con
tact Markus Steinbach at steinbac at uni-mainz.de.
Since the aim of the conference is to bring to
gether philosophers and linguists, we call for pap
ers on all aspects of the conference topic, which
will be anonymously reviewed by a reading committe
 e. Call deadline: 15-June-2007.
