\n There will be two conferences related to set theory in Japan this summer. One is the ALC 10 (As ian Logic Conference) in Kobe (Sept. 1 - 6); the \ n other is a workshop on Combinatorial and Descriptive Set Theory in Kyoto (Aug. 25 - 29).\n

\nActivities in set theory at th e ALC include one 4-hour tutorial (Greg \n Hjorth), one plenary lecture (Justin Moore), and a special session with eight speakers. The set theory workshop in Kyoto will feature two mini courses (Simon \n Thomas and Menachem Kojma n). Several speakers have already been invited, \n and we hope there will be many more talks, in particular by junior \n participants.\n

\nThe Asian Logic Conference ha s occurred every three years in\n Asia-Pacifi c region since 1981, Singapore. The purpose of the \n conference is to facilitate interaction be tween researchers\n interested in mathematica l logic, logic in computer science, and\n phi losophical logic. It aims at promoting activities in\n mathematical logic in the Asia-Pacific s o that logicians both\n from within Asia and elsewhere would get together and exchange\n i nformation and ideas.\n
