DESCRIPTION:Rudolf Carnap's Principle of Tolerance
is an early formulation of the idea of Logical Pl
uralism: "In Logic, there are no morals. Everyone
is at liberty to build his own logic, i.e. his own
form of language as he wishes". But is the logica
l validity of an argument just a matter of languag
e choice? And if so, is this really a pluralism ab
out logic, not rather a pluralism about languages?
Contemporary Logical Pluralism also insists th
at there is more than one correct logic. Classical
, intuitionist, and relevent logic, as well as a n
umber of other logics, all correctly govern our re
asoning within a given language, but apply to diff
erent cases. Can we make sense of genuinely differ
ent, but equally good logical consequence relation
s? Registration deadline for this conference is
July 1st, 2008. To register, please send an email
to cohnitz at ut.ee. For more information, see ht
