SUMMARY:European Conference on Artificial Intellig
 ence (ECAI-2010), Lisbon, Portugal
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20100816

LOCATION:Lisbon, Portugal
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a cent
ral topic in contemporary computer science and inf
ormatics. The fruits of fifty years of AI research
have benefited application domains as disparate a
s industrial systems control and medicine. The mil
estone events in AI research are increasingly rega
rded as milestones in human scientific and technol
ogical development: from the first chess playing p
rogram to defeat a reigning world champion under s
tandard chess tournament rules, to the first robot
to autonomously traverse 150 miles of rough terra
in. Techniques, results, and concepts developed un
der the banner of AI research have proved to be of
fundamental importance in areas such as economics
, philosophy, linguistics, psychology, and logical
analysis. And of course, AI remains a topic of pe
rennial fascination in popular culture. Initiate
d in 1974, the biennial European Conference on Art
ificial Intelligence (ECAI) is Europe's premier ar
chival venue for presenting scientific results in
AI. Organised by the European Coordinating Committ
ee for AI (ECCAI), the ECAI conference provides an
opportunity for researchers to present and hear a
bout the very best research in contemporary AI. As
well as a full programme of technical papers, ECA
I-2010 will include the Prestigious Applications o
f Intelligent Systems conference (PAIS), the Start
ing AI Researcher Symposium (STAIRS), and an exten
sive programme of workshops, tutorials, and invite
d speakers. For more information, see http://eca
i2010.appia.pt/ Papers, posters and workshop prop
osals by all members of the international AI commu
nity are welcome. Workshops should be one- or two-
day interactive events, and ample time should be a
llocated to discussion. Deadline for proposals: 11
December 2009 (early submissions are welcome!). D
eadline for abstracts of papers and posters: 15 Fe
 bruary 2010.
