SUMMARY:Conference on Eastern and Western Philosop
hical Themes, New York NY, U.S.A.
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20091204
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20091205
LOCATION:New York NY, U.S.A.
DESCRIPTION:At one time, there was lively dialogue
between Western and Eastern philosophy. Schopenha
uer, Nietzsche and William James were strongly inf
luenced by Eastern philosophy. But, during recent
years, Western philosophy has shown much less resp
ect for the East than previous and there seems les
s awareness that issues like epistemology, time, a
nd selfhood have been addressed very intelligently
in the East. The purpose of the conference is t
o reinvigorate the dialog between Eastern and West
ern philosophy (philosophy as distinct from religi
on), and a galaxy of brilliant speakers from all o
ver the globe have agreed to participate. For mo
