SUMMARY:3rd AISB Symposium on Computing and Philos
 ophy, York, U.K.
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20110404
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20110407
LOCATION:York, U.K.
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the 2011 AISB (Soc
iety for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and
Simulation of Behaviour) Convention. As a subjec
t for philosophical investigation computing has a
long history. With the rapid technological progres
s of electronic computing since the mid-20th centu
ry we have seen the emergence of much deeper and b
roader interactions between computing and philosop
hy. Both philosophy and computing stand to benefit
from this continuing dialogue. The purpose of the
symposium is to further strengthen communication
between these disciplines, thereby to advance the
philosophical study of computing in general in rel
ation to a number of key issues. These include tra
ditional philosophical problems and the philosophi
cal issues surrounding computational modelling. We
therefore welcome papers exploring any of these i
ssues. Papers that engage with cognitive science a
re particularly encouraged. For more information
, see the symposium website at http://www.doc.gold
 .ac.uk/seminars/AISB/Philosophy+Computing.html We
therefore welcome papers exploring any of these i
ssues. Papers that engage with cognitive science a
re particularly encouraged. Submission deadline: 3
