DESCRIPTION:The conference will focus on philosoph
ical issues that arise within the practice and app
lication of contemporary research using modeling a
nd simulation. The goal of this event is "Building
Bridges Between the Philosophical and Modeling Co
mmunities": to bring together sophisticated work i
n philosophy of science and on-going efforts in mo
deling in order to build more effective collaborat
ion between philosophers of science and those who
build and employ models in a range of disciplines
and applications. For more information, see http
 ://www.modelingepistemology.pitt.edu/ Submission
of extended abstracts is invited (1000 words) for
presentations of approximately 30 minutes. Modelin
g work in any discipline or application is welcome
d that includes philosophical reflection on episte
mological issues raised. Philosophical work in any
relevant area is welcomed, with preference given
for work that includes a focus on specific example
s of contemporary modeling. Projects that involve
both philosophers and those active in modeling res
earch, outcomes, or policy impact are particularly
encouraged. Deadline for submission: January 7, 2
 011.
