SUMMARY:1st Pittsburgh-Tilburg workshop on "Formal
  Epistemology meets Experimental Philosophy" (FEM
 EP 2011), Tilburg, The Netherlands
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20110929
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20110930
LOCATION:Tilburg, The Netherlands
DESCRIPTION:Over the years, the methodological too
lbox of philosophers of science has widened consid
erably. Today, formal and experimental methods imp
ortantly complement more traditional methods such
as conceptual analysis and case studies. So far, h
owever, there has not been much interaction betwee
n the corresponding communities. The working assum
ption of this workshop is that philosophy of scien
ce can gain a lot from combining formal and experi
mental studies. This workshop aims to explore th
e relation between formal and experimental approac
hes to the philosophy of science. We invite meta-t
heoretical papers, but especially papers that frui
tfully combine both methods to problems from the p
hilosophy of science. This first Pittsburgh-Tilbur
g workshop will pay special attention to the philo
sophy of the social sciences, but a focus on other
subfields of philosophy of science is also welcom
 e. For more information, see http://www.tilburgu
 niversity.edu/research/institutes-and-research-gro
ups/tilps/ We invite submissions of both a short
abstract (max. 100 words) and an extended abstract
  (1000-1500 words) by 1 May 2011.
