SUMMARY:Conceptual Analysis and 2-D Semantics, Col
 ogne, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20110618
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20110619
LOCATION:Cologne, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Conceptual analysis continues to play
an important role in philosophical practice, even
though it does not always go under this label. But
the method is anything but undisputed. In particu
lar, there seems to be little point in pondering o
n our concepts if, as many believe, the meaning of
our expressions - as well as the content of our m
ental states - is determined by factors which are
external to us. Against this, it has been argued t
hat two-dimensional semantics can provide the theo
retical underpinnings for conceptual analysis, whi
le reconciling it with many insights gained from a
rguments put forth to support externalism. The c
onference focuses on issues surrounding conceptual
analysis, two-dimensional semantics and their con
nection. Some of the envisaged topics are: - The
role of conceptual analysis in philosophical inqui
ry - The interpretation and the scope of two-dime
nsional semantics and its bearing on conceptual an
alysis - Potential applications of two-dimensiona
l semantics to metaphysics, ethics, epistemology,
and the philosophy of mind For more information,
