 October-2011-Joint-Workshop-on-Knowledge-Evolution

DTSTAMP:20110609T000000
SUMMARY:Joint Workshop on Knowledge Evolution and
Ontology Dynamics (EvoDyn 2011), Bonn, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20111024
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20111024
LOCATION:Bonn, Germany
DESCRIPTION:EvoDyn builds on the success of the pr
evious editions of the Ontology Dynamics workshop
formerly known as IWOD (organised as a part of the
  ESWC'07, ISWC'08, ISWC'09 and ISWC'10 conferences
). EvoDyn continues in the tradition of IWOD in be
ing the core annual event to discuss advances in t
he broad area of ontology dynamics, and to track r
ecent work directly or indirectly related to the p
roblem of evolving ontologies. This year, however,
the scope of the workshop is broadened by a speci
al focus on the knowledge evolution. As ontologies
are formal representations of knowledge, the stud
y of their dynamics is an inherent part of investi
gating the knowledge evolution phenomena, yet it i
s only one of many relevant aspects this workshop
aims to cover in an integral manner. In particu
lar, the workshop focuses on analysis of trends an
d change in formal descriptions (i.e., ontologies)
, but also in associated raw sources of knowledge
 (scientific publications, unstructured or semi-str
uctured web content, traditional data stores, e-ma
il or on-line discussion threads, etc.). We are es
pecially interested in research targeted on variou
s states of knowledge evolution, such as (a) confl
 icts, (b) consolidation, (c) discovery, (d) paradi
gm shifts, and (e) breakthroughs. One crucial obje
ctive of better understanding these different stat
es may be to study directly the underlying causes
and dynamics needed to generate discoveries and br
eakthroughs. We will only be able to facilitate an
d possibly also generate such desirable situations
if we can understand the process of how knowledge
evolves. The process of how knowledge in a field
grows and changes, crystallizes, and fractures are
all areas of interest of this workshop. Further
information and relevant updates can be found at t
 he workshop web page: http://www.ontologydynamics.
 org/od/index.php/evodyn2011/ The Programme Commi
ttee cordially invites all researchers to submit t
heir papers for presentation. We especially encour
age submissions that integrally cover multiple rel
evant topics. Deadline for the submission of paper
