DESCRIPTION:The aim of this conference is to explo
re the consequences of Charles Travis’s position f
or the possibility of systematic theoretical inves
tigation into human psychology and linguistic unde
rstanding. Our intention is to open up a forum fo
r debate and discussion of the current status of T
ravis’s work in relation to those issues upon whic
h his ideas have exerted the most influence, such
 as the semantics-pragmatics interface, perceptual
disjunctivism, and (more generally) theories of re
presentational content, each of which have come to
dominate current research in analytic philosophy.
The conference will bring together a group of dis
tinguished philosophers who have engaged directly
with Travis’s work over the years. For more infor
mation and registration, see the conference websit
 e at http://www.uea.ac.uk/phi/eventsnews/events/ch
arles-travis. We may be able to offer some student
  bursaries.
