SUMMARY:Workshop on Foundations for Ockham's Razor
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20120622

LOCATION:Carnegie Mellon University, Center for Fo

DESCRIPTION:Scientific theory choice is guided by
judgments of simplicity, a bias frequently referre
d to as "Ockham's Razor". But what is simplicity a
nd how, if at all, does it help science find the t
ruth? Should we view simple theories as means for
obtaining accurate predictions, as classical stati
sticians recommend? Or should we believe the theor
ies themselves, as Bayesian methods seem to justif
y? The aim of this workshop is to re-examine the f
oundations of Ockham's razor, with a firm focus on
the connections, if any, between simplicity and t
ruth. For more information, see: http://www.andre
