SUMMARY:2013 Workshop on Computational Models of N
 arrative (CMN 2013), Hamburg, Germany
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20130804
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20130806
LOCATION:Hamburg, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Narratives are ubiquitous in human exp
erience. We use them to communicate, convince, exp
lain, and entertain. As far as we know, every soci
ety in the world has narratives, which suggests th
ey are rooted in our psychology and serve an impor
tant cognitive function. It is becoming increasing
ly clear that, to truly understand and explain hum
an intelligence, beliefs, and behaviors, we will h
ave to understand why and to what extent narrative
is universal and explain (or explain away) the fu
nction it serves. The aim of this workshop series
is to address key questions that advance our under
standing of narrative and our ability to model it
computationally. This workshop will be an appro
priate venue for papers addressing fundamental top
ics and questions regarding narrative. The worksho
p will be held as a satellite event of the 2013 An
nual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society (to
be held in Berlin 31st July - 3rd August), and so
will have a special focus on the cognitive science
of narrative. For more information, see http://
 narrative.csail.mit.edu/ws13. Questions should be
directed to narrative-ws13 at csail.mit.edu. Th
e Programme Committee cordially invites all resear
chers to submit their papers for presentation. Pap
ers should be relevant to issues fundamental to th
e computational modeling and scientific understand
ing of narrative. We accept both finished research
and more tentative exploratory work. Paper submis
 sion deadline: February 24, 2013
