SUMMARY:Logicality, Lexical Meaning and Semantic I
 nvariance, Barcelona, Spain
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20130625
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20130625
LOCATION:Barcelona, Spain
DESCRIPTION:The workshop aims at connecting two de
bates from two different disciplines: the debate o
ver logical constants in philosophy of logic and t
he debate on the functional vs. lexical distinctio
n in linguistics. It further aims at examining the
notion of semantic invariance, both as used by lo
gicians (namely, as a criterion for logicality) an
d by linguists and philosophers of language in dis
cussions of semantics. One of the main goals of th
e workshop is to examine whether the distinction b
etween logical vs. non-logical expressions maps on
to the distinction between functional vs. lexical
(or 'substantive') categories. For more informat
 ion, see http://parles.upf.edu/llocs/istojanovic/w
orkshop/ The workshop organizers invite papers fo
r 40 min talks, followed by 20 min discussion, fro
m areas of linguistics, philosophy of language and
logic that address the issues presented in the wo
rkshop description. Submission deadline: 13 April
 2013.
