SUMMARY:Workshop "Objects of All Kinds" (OAK), Lil
 le, France
ATTENDEE;ROLE=Speaker:Dale Jacquette (Bern), Wim V
 eldman (Nijmegen)
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20140522
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20140523
LOCATION:Lille, France
DESCRIPTION:The concept of object is one of the mo
st general concepts in philosophy. On the one hand
, we may be interested in the general question of
what it is to be an object. On the other hand, we
face the problem of delineating the criteria of ob
jecthood in connection with specialized topics, gi
ving rise to specific questions on what it is to b
e an object of a certain kind (such as concrete, a
 bstract, indeterminate, mathematical, etc.). Accep
ting or refusing things of a certain kind as legit
imate objects (of that particular kind) when devel
oping a scientific theory or a philosophical posit
ion is likely to have important general repercussi
ons. In our workshop we wish to investigate the
notion of object, both generally and in relation t
o particular fields of research. The emphasis is o
n the grounds and consequences of specific views o
n objects. For more information, see http://evene
ments.univ-lille3.fr/oak/ or contact ronzitti at g
 mail.com or tero.tulenheimo at univ-lille3.fr (for
information concerning the workshop) or matthieu.
gallais at univ-lille3.fr (for practical informati
on). We invite submissions presenting original co
ntributions to the above questions in relation to
different disciplines within which they can arise
 (metaphysics, logic, physics, mathematics, theory
of knowledge, and so on). Up to 4 contributed pape
rs will be accepted for presentation at the worksh
op. In addition, up to 2 short student presentatio
ns will be accepted. Submission deadline: February
  15, 2014
