SUMMARY:Norms, Actions, Games (NAG 2014), London,
 U.K.
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20140401
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20140402
LOCATION:London, U.K.
DESCRIPTION:In strategic interaction, where multip
le agents pursue personal objectives, conflict is
bound to arise, as the actions of the individual a
gents have an effect on the welfare of the others.
In such situations the need arises for the explic
it regulation of individual and collective behavio
ur which has traditionally followed two alternativ
e approaches, well-known in the economics literatu
re: the spontaneous order approach, which studies
how norms result from endogenous agreements among
rational individuals, and the mechanism design app
roach, which studies how norms are exogenously des
igned in order to reach desirable properties. Th
e present workshop is motivated by the conviction
that the two paradigms to understand norms in stra
tegic interaction are by no means incompatible and
can be effectively used together for regulative p
urposes. The aim of the symposium is to gather res
earchers looking at norms in strategic interaction
from different perspectives, i.e. philosophy, com
puter science, game theory, logic, fostering discu
 ssion and interdisciplinary collaboration. Researc
hers will be given the opportunity of presenting t
heir work in a stimulating environment, without no
velty constraints on their contribution. For mor
e information please have a look at the workshop w
 ebsite http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~pturrini/NAG/ We
welcome contributions on the conference topics fro
m all relevant disciplines, with special emphasis
on interdisciplinary approaches. The deadline for
submission is January 30, 2014, and we will accept
short papers/extended abstract (max 3000 words).
